Morning banding

Decided to stop by a bird banding demonstration at East Fork before having to go to work this morning. Wasn't much bird activity, but they did catch a few common birds.
I liked this idea, to keep it from biting, a bracelet was used. (cardinals hurt when they bite!)

Those Cardinals certainly can grip. I can remember in the banding lab at Long Point BO, Ontario in the 1980s a cartoon of a Northern Cardinal with the scientific name of 'viceus gripeus'!

ReplyDeleteBird banding is a specialized art that requires a lot of patience. There are certain ways to hold the birds that prevents them from being injured. (Bird banders must pass an in field and written exam in order to band on their own.)
